What is the focus of your organization?

The focus of our organization is to increase the retention rate of African American males in college and university settings while creating a safe and welcoming environment. We work to assist the African American male population to graduate on time and add experience to their resumes.

When did your organization start on our campus? How many members do you currently have?

Our organization started five years ago by an individual during his undergrad. He recently graduated with his Masters. We currently have 15 members.

How often do you meet?

We meet weekly, every Tuesday at 6:00pm in CSU 238.

What offices do you offer within the chapter?

I am the current President. We have a Vice President, Event Coordinator, Treasurer, Secretary, Recruitment Officer, and Graphic Designer.

What are your goals?

Our goal this year is to grow the name of B.I.G (Black Intelligent Gentlemen). We ant the entire campus to be aware of our group.

What impact do you want to have on society/individuals?

We want to change the social “prejudgements” that are perceived of the black male in America. We want the population to know that there are black men in college and they are doing well.

What is the greatest achievement your organization has received?

We gathered together students of many races in a room to educate both students and law enforcements on the issues between the younger generation and officers.

Do you have events on campus?

Yes. We plan to have a speed dating event on February 16. This will be a conversational and social event. And we will have our police event sometime in April.

How do you join?

Just come our meetings and engage yourself. Everyone will be welcomed with open arms.

Why should someone want to join your organization?

We are a humble and open minded group. Everyone that comes into our meetings and has an idea or way of thinking will be respected. We do not judge and we love to have conversations. More importantly, we build character in individuals so that the experiences they have with us will help move them through their educational career.
